I learned a lesson last week. I bought this sign and when got it home and put it on the lighting table,I noticed something wrong with it. Its restored.
When I first held it in my hands, it felt strange and I made the mistake and bought it anyway. I know... I learned my lesson and screwed up.
The question is.. what do I do with it? I had the chance to pass it a long and not lose any money, but I can not do that and sleep at night. I thought of bending it in half, so no one else gets it. I figured the best thing to do is resell it as a restored sign.
1. What is a restored sign worth?
2. should it be marked as a restored sign?
3. isnt a restored sign as bad as a repo?
I put this on here, so I and others can learn about the value of restored signs and so other won't learn about these, the way I did. Thanks Bill

Bill, IMO The sign should be marked as a reconditioned sign, and if you enjoy it you should display it. That being said I am a car guy and have seen many original rare cars that were rusted out beyond repair, A lot of these cars get re-bodied or almost every piece of sheet metal replaced. These cars when sold and advertized as re-bodied or total sheet metal replacement cars still have a place in the collector car world. In the case of such beautyful signs like the one you have I think if marked acordingly, it also has a place in the collector world. I hope that helps. This is just one man's opinion.

Hang it on the wall and enjoy the sign for what it is, colorful and nice to look at. You can in the future sell it and simply tell or advertise it as restored. Just be honest, but still enjoy your sign.

I myself do not think there's anything wrong with a sign having been restored as long as it was done professionally, and provided it at least be sold on as having been restored and perhaps marked on the backside as restored.

I bought an original one of those last week and know they are hard to find. I say it's a fine sign, do not destroy it.

well yes restoration shots value in the foot, thumbs up to you as a seller to not pass it along. Think your smart enough to know what that sign would bring, there would be promblems as result of the sell. You can sell it as restored and ingrave it on back as such. I would not restore a pump plate,as there is to many out there,BUT THATS ME.
I have a couple slated for restoration, that I will enjoy till I'm gone, and we will mark on back some how as such. These signs a so rare that they will have value, what it will be is a good question. My intentions are that they will be passed down to my son and stay with him. So do I care what I'm doing to value- nope.Sure others will not agree with my logic.I would say that the pump plate in question is reduced to half value, and some would rate it as junk. This topic always starts a debate here and has somewhat been beat to death several times in the short time I have been a member. Is restoration as bad as a knock off look alike ,I don;t think so,as long as it is not miss repersented,as orginal unrestored, but I understnd collectors concerns.
I found it interesting that the some members that I heard bash restorations, could not wait to see the end result of the coke button that sellersrodshop done the step by step process here on Oldgas, and then tell him what a great job he done. JMTC---WELL MAYBE FIVE CENTS.
