Jack & Easy:

To answer your query on why Krause limits you to a certain number of pages . . .

If you look at the bottom/top edge of your book, you will see that it is made up of multiple 'sections' of folded sheets that are them - in turn - 'bound' with the cover into a book. There are 22 sections. Each section is 16 'pages' which equals 352 total pages.

A normal printing operation is set up to do these sections automatically.

The pages are printed in what is called a '16-page spread'. This is where the pages in a particular section of the book are layed out side-by-side and head-to-foot & back-to-back and printed on one single large sheet of paper.

When this one large sheet is completed, it goes through a machine that folds it into one section of the book and then automatically places that section with the other sections (in order) to make up the interior of the book.

This grouping of 22 sections then gets a pre-printed cover glued and wrapped around the bound edge - formed & pressed into the squared shape - and sent to a trimming machine that cleans up the top, bottom and outside edge.

You now have a finished book ready for sale.

Krause may not have the ability to do more than 22 sections on their machinery. Or, if thye can, you would need to add pages in 16-page increments in order for the printing process to work.

This is why you will sometimes notice a 'few' blank pages at the end of some publications. Or the publisher/author will add some pages for 'Notes' at the back of the book.

It's all just part of the publishing process.

I hope this helped explain the process a little bit.

Later . . .

Jim
