This pump has an orignal etched cylinder that looks great.
One of two problems is it's cloudy from dirt etc and you really cant see in it that good.
The next problem is it has a crack from top to bottom.

Is there any way to compress the cylinder, to get it out in one piece to clean the inside of the glass and pump, and them reinstall it?
Thanks
Lee

I wouldn't touch that one with a 39-1/2 foot pole. You will end up with a pile of glass to go with the trail of tears. You might be a able to tape together with some good tape. that is if it's not glued in.
I would leave as is and enjoy it for what it is!

I tend to agree. I have tried to remove cracked cylinders carefully only to have them break once they are loosened? Your only saving grace is that this is a Fry and should have a metal ring at the bottom and top, which the cylinder set in. The ring was placed on a cork gasket,on the pump cylinder seat and tightened down. If the glass is set in solidly enough you might get lucky but again, I wouldn't try it? Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Paul, do the rings stay on the cylinder when I remove it.

That sounds doable if they are.

Thanks for the info.

The cylinder is caulked into the metal rings and they should stay on the cylinder when it is removed. The whole unit still would have been under pressure from the retaining rods haveing been tightened so you still have the risk of breakage when the pressure is released. It should be fairly easy to remove the gasket material and separate the cylinder from the pump if you are successful in loosening the pressure.

Hey Lee- What size cylinder does that pump take? Does "0" start at top or bottom? Dave

If you end up needing one, I may have a good blue one for it. I just have to make sure that I don't have a pump that needs it. Always willing to trade for the elusive 13x22.5!

Sounds like the day I was taking apart my St. Louis 409. Loosened the nuts slowly, there was a big pop. Time to get the broom and shovel. Even worse if it already has a crack in it.

Taking in account what Jack said, I am a little less confident this morning.
I went out and looked closer through all the dirt etc, and found more cracks.
Just eye balling the width it does look like 12" and the height is 27".

12 x 27 is a lot easier & cheaper to find Except for the Etched version than a 13 5/8 x 22.
T-way might be able to make you a couple of stencils for doing the etching on a standard cyl. IF you decide to replace the cyl.
