I see a lot of Falcon Motor Oil cans everywhere I go. I've seen the can sell for around $20-$25 on Ebay. Everyone I've seen for sale is "unopened with no contents". This throws up a huge red flag to me. Is this a real company? Is it a fantasy can or what?

I agree. It does seem like a repop. The thing is...I've never seen one that has been drained or one that is full. We all know how ebay is. You would think there would be at least one on there. Thanks for the post.

I've had one that was drained with some oil still inside. From what i recall someone found a ton of these cans unopened.

Back around 1990 someone found a warehouse full (well no not that many) but a lot. They were all display cans. Around that time every table at CTO or Iowa Gas had at least six of them for sale. Based on this, I would say thay are original, who would reproduce something that there was a ton of already out there?

Not enough old guys still around who remember things like this.

They're a great can to add to your collection - cheap, nice graphics and usually in great shape. You'll see a lot with no top lid and plenty that have been relidded. I've seen one company even offering the cans with candles in them for $50 - now that's a rip-off!

I live 30 miles from Hollis, OK. I've been to the old plant. The canning machine was still there when I went. There was one place that had hundreds of cases of empty cans. There were in a basement like building. The roof was nearly gone and the cans were rusted up really bad. It was a mess. One old picker that I knew had 800 cases of mint ones, at one time.

IF they were 24 can cases that's 19,200 cans.
Some can companies I buy from ship 102 cans per case, other ships 192.
THAT'S A LOT OF CANS, either way.

April 15 this can sold for $50.99!

I just bought a small stash of them from a guy in Enid, OK yesterday. He said they came from an older gentleman that had them stored in the back of his garage.
I have read that they are from the late 40's, someone said 1949.
Obviously, I am keeping some for myself, but I am willing to part with 4 of them. They are the never filled, never had a lid on them, great paint with no dents.
What do you think I should ask for a price? Should I use fleaBay?
THANKS

The cans can still be found in the region around Hollis. Some in pristine condition. I picked up a few from a guy that still had them in the cardboard case from the factory. Each can was unlidded and in an individual plastic wrap.

Butch's number of 20k is what I have always been told. Mid-late 80's ads ran in Hemmings for several years @ $35/case.

Dad and I bought 10 cases for $240 around 1988 at Pate in Cresson, TX and at the time spending $240 on oil cans was questionable, (nice 30" signs were 200-400)

I have seen tons of the metal empty cans, some have been "lidded", but cant recall one made of cardboard or having a paper label. Doesnt seem to be as many of the SWIFT brand. I do not believe these were ever intended to be "display" cans. just over purchased empties. This brings to mind all the TIDEWATER cans ,same deal. Butch, I think the Falcon cans sell in the $35-$40 range now.

I was in Florida last week and they were every where at the flea markets for 15.00 to 20.00 each. I was told someone came in with 20 cases all empty cans mint for sale. I bought a few cans but wondered the same thing after buying them (ARE THEY FAKE) But researched and figured they were real.

Thanks Dino
