Heres some pics of an old porcelain sign that I was given by another Old Gasser! First picture is the "as received" condition. Second picture is after 10 minutes with some "Mothers Metal Polish" and a power ball on the end of my electrical drill.
I still wasn't stisfied because there were still some rust stains that weren't coming off, so the 3rd picture is after using some muriatic acid on it for about 5 minutes.
I think thats as good as I'm able to get it, but now it goes up on the wall because it was a gift from a good friend and those are the most prescious signs!

No, thats the way I received it and thats the way it will stay until someone else gets it! LOL
Too bad someone used it for target practice. I think its fairly rare in that 16 inch size?

Cleaned up really nice. And I have to give the shooter thumbs up.
You have probably answered this before, after you use the muriatic acid. Do you neutralize with baking soda and water. Got a gallon from pool shop yesterday, gallon of distilled water, breathing mask, rubber gloves. I'm loaded for bear. Opps loaded for signs.

When using the muriatic acid, I simply rinse in the shop sink, or use a bucket of water and a sponge to neutralize.

Kevin Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure what final step needed to be. Pool guy said be carefull,as theirs was 3 times as strong as what you buy at hardware store.

Um, watch out what you put down your drain in general, and if you have a septic system, never put anything in that will kill the microbes that eat your poo, or you will have a failed septic system...

Yes, from the size, I believe it was a truck door sign. I have a clover shaped one thats the same size and I was told that it was a truck door sign. This is the only one that I have seen in the 16 inch size but I'm sure there are others out there.

Lee-Be sure to reroute thse signs here and I'll clean them up and maybe deliver the following Iowa Gas, that is--If I go?
