any body know anything about this jar?
it is about 3 inches tall and 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter roughly
jar is embossed with 'Standard Motor Company'
Anything to do with Standard Oil Company?
what came in the jar?
how old?
not really looking for value but if you feel the need go for it....
Thanks in advance!

I thought glass jars were for liquids or gels (in consmetics--I know this isn't--it might be face cream, etc.), wouldn't it make more sense and be less breakage to pack parts in a box or sack?

Nicole, You will need to find someone, who was alive in the 1920s, this question. That was Standards method of merchandising.

Company is still in busines...Standard Ignition Products. Ignition parts like points, condensers, clips, etc... is what these jars held. I've got the full set with rack and signage. I think they're pretty cool.

They were in glass jars so the mechanic could see quickly what he was looking for. A lot of the other ignition parts companies used tins that required opening each one to verify the contents, Standard Ignition made it easier.

Thanks Jack and Ohio Oil,
I knew tins were in use and cardboard was being used by the late 1800's is why I was wondering about that. It makes a lot of sense as a selling point for the mechanic, or even a store customer who needs one part, to see the contents!

i was lucky enough the other day to find a dozen jars very similar to the standard jars, they were labeled neihoff parts , with neihoff embossed on the bottom of jar also. thought they were neat.
