I know that this sign has been talked about in the past in other styles. The old time collector says it is the real deal as he has had it for years.Appears to be an oil can rack sign.Painted tin.Measures about 21"x 11 1/2". Condition is shown in pics.Let me know if you think its legit and your opinion of value. Thanks for info!Mark

Very nice/excellent porcelain versions run 900++ to the top end collectors. They measure 15x30.

Dunno about tin version, one thing concerns me is the color of the green, it's several shades darker than legit porcelain and closer to the green used on the repop. And the size is not similar as well. I'd have to study similar era Texaco pieces to verify the Texaco logo as well as it looks a bit odd.

Venturing a guess as a picker, IF legit I wouldn't ask over $150-200 if it won't clean any better than in the picture. If it did clean up well I'd add some $$. As marine related is so sought after I suppose I'd see some collectors wanting $400 or more and I'd be happy to sell it at those higher prices.

My initial gut feeling looking at the picture and previous to reading any other replies was it looks like an original sign to me as well. I don't see someone going to such lengths to age a repro sign to this extent! The "patina" looks age appropriate for a sign it's age that wasn't cared for all that well. All the edge folds look correct to me as well. No help on value though....

What a great sign. I know I would feel comfortable paying $500 or so for that sign.

Carolinaskies-- I'd sure be a buyer if you can find me a nice porcelain one for $900! But I think you forgot a ZERO!

They've been out there KW. eBay isn't the only place they sell and values range depending on bidders, etc. It's nice to see the two latest have apparently sold high.

BTW, (++) indicates significant increase over the base. A single (+) means some increase.

I still don't know about the OP's piece being worth the $500 in condition being tinplate and not porcelain. But as I said, I'd happily sell one for that kind of money in that kind of condition.
