I wanted to remove some rust stains from a 42" porcelain Texaco sign I bought (posted in the Showcases/Stories section- BOTW). I have a bottle of Flitz Metal polish that I have had sitting around and checked online to see if it was safe for porcelain and it said it is. I have always used Barkeeper's friend with good success, but thought I would try a small area and see how it did. I was able to remove the rust bleeds from the damaged areas of the porcelain as well as some of the acid rain marks on the sign. Worked really well, but took a little longer, but it left a nice shine.

I should have mentioned that I used a paper towel and the paste and then gave the sign a spritz of Windex to clean off any residue. The stuff runs around $5 for a small bottle, but given the fact I didn't have to wash or rinse the sign with water and it cleaned up with no issues, I was very happy with it.

Do you have any before and after photos? You should post them to show the results>

The sign didn't have that many issues to begin with and I hope it shows up in the photos, but there were a few rust bleeds that I was able to clean up without taking the sign down after hanging. I hope you can see the difference. It was easy to see in person, but I hope the photos show the difference.

Which Flitz did you use? Looks like they make a few different metal polishes. Thanks

In the first photo, there was a rust bleed on the left edge of the "S" in GASOLINE and a rust bleed in the "O" in MOTOR. There was also a small rust bleed in the sign just below the "OFF." in REG U.S. PAT. OFF.

I use steel wool when the rust is hard to get off and never have damaged the porcelain.

agree...
you don't need to waste your money on cleaning products.
good ole steel wool or Scotch Brite pad sometimes I use an Orange handcleaner with Pumice in it.
but you really don't need anything to remove rust stains....just a little scrubbing.
