Has anyone on here ever heard of this "Cameo" sign company? I am curious what everyone thinks about this sign. Personally, I am leary, but am not completely sure. Does anyone know if it is real or phony? The price seems way to cheap for a sign in that conditon, should be around $1500. Any help would be appreciated. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Double-S...=item564aaf51d0

Roger, I would stay away from it. Grommets look to new and to small also. Stick to the ones stamped "property of ford" across the top and "Veribrite signs" along the bottom.

CAMEO is an older repro company.

I had an old large, wood-framed Goodyear porcelain marked with the CAMEO name in the corner. It was not a repro sign and I believe research will show that it was an early Califofnia based company that produced porcelain signs.

PS. I am not offering an opinon on the Ford sign, only that I am sure there was a legit company named CAMEO.

I can't vouch for the authenticity of the Ford sign but I agree with NEBRGAS that there was indeed a sign company named Cameo. The California Metal Enamel Works. I have a prohibtion sign advertising Pabst Wonder Cheese with the CAMEO name on it. The product sounds cheesy in itself but as you may well know, many alcohol manufacturers produced other products during that time. I got the sign in the mid 80s from a very reputable collector who had bought it in the early 70s.

5 years ago at a swap meet, I saw a Campbell's soup can porcelain sign with the makers mark "Cameo". It was very well made, thin metal, 18" X 12" passed it up for $75 because I thought it was a repop.

Unlikely an established sign company did an unauthorized run of these ford signs?? Or was the repop business not policed like it is today, making it easier to get away with this.
see me at Mason Dixon Gas, Spring Carlisle M114-115, and Hershey C4E-35.
