Hello all,
I was researching a recent find of a old oil can and ran across this great website and was wondering if I might get a little help. Usually I can find a trove of information on different petroleum related items I pick up but can find nothing about this can. It is a 1 gallon Pentex can and it also says Slimp Oil Company of San Antonio on it. There is a stamp on the spout that says "PAT.APR2417". Does anyone have any information at all about this can or company such as age, company info etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Richard

"PAT.APR2417" is the Pat. # for the spout [not the can] & could have been made anytime after that date. Pat. were applied for & usually took the Pat. Office 2 years to issue a Pat. #, but companies were usually already into production before Pat. was applied for.

A general rule for 1gal. cans w/ rolled seamed edge top/bottoms is '30's & later, 2gal. are usually 40's-60's.
Soldered top/bottom cans are earlier.
