I recently acquired what I believe to be an original red crown globe that was once used on top of a gas pump, I have a picture of it here

The glass is in excellent shape but the paint on the top has faded bad due to many years of sunlight.
Can someone tell me what years these were used,and how old this one might be?
What value might this have in it's current condition?
What value might this have if it were correctly re-painted?
How does one go about correctly re-painting one, color code, paint type, process used, etc.
