Hello All,
It was a nice day for a road trip to pick up my first large Mobilgas shield. Since they take up lots of room, I always said if I bought one it would be a local area White Star version. I was able to secure one from a fellow Old Gasser. It was a pleasure to meet you Butch, and thanks everything! It is dated 1934, and is in pretty presentable condition I think for being one of 6 buried underground and discovered about 10 years ago in upper Michigan. I am going to try and fix the hanging bracket or have a new one made as it suffered from being underground.

I've purchased some scarcer Mobil cans lately. The Socony Lubrite was an upgrade. The Delvac is the rarely seen Socony Vacuum version, and was the first one I'd seen in the older serif font. The Crystal Clear cleaner was the first I'd ever seen as well. I think it was made only for station use as it says on the side that cleaning windshields increases gasoline business. It's in super shape. Lastly, the hand lotion is the 5th different lotion bottle I've found. While I normally do not buy the "blue" Mobil items, this version completes the set as far as I know and is seen much less than the ones with Pegasus on them.

Last but not least, the plaque is a Socony Mobil version, I already had the Socony Vacuum version, so that should be the two versions made. The old baseball jersey is pretty cool, from the late 40's or 50's, and has "MAGNOLIA" on the back and came from Texas. S-V sponsored these teams all over the US. It was on eBay a couple of times and was finally listed at a price I thought was fair. The Service Station design book is really neat, with lithographs of all the station designs in 1956, as well as the blueprints of each one. It also lists the color schemes that the interiors of the stations were supposed to be, as well as proper branding of the station. There are also a couple of service awards in the box, a tie bar and a Magnolia stick pin. Sorry to be a story teller, but I like this stuff and enjoy sharing it with everyone,
Darin

Very nice addition to the pump corral Matt..I saw that one today, and thought it was pretty clean for the price I did give some thought to the white one he had.
I picked up some barn hangars at the swap meet. Mid week I picked up another Tokheim 620, and a new trash can for the shop.

While I wasn't at IG this week, I was busy working out a couple deals on a few nice pumps this week with 2 Bennetts and another W-70 coming my way on a trade, and also picked up a dozen nice Red Indian cans and a few larger RI tins for my collection. Included in that trade was another Firestone sign, and today I brought home some cans and signs purchased from a couple members of Old Gas. Thanks to Don and Joe for the Read Head cans and tins. Score of the day was the 2 foot SSP sign from BAROID Oil. Dated 55 and in nice condition with a few minor touch ups, this is from a local oil drilling company who were based out of Calgary and are still around today but operated under Halliburton Intl. With the sign came a calendar notepad from 1965 where Baroid marketed their name using a pinup girl and a "clean sweep" slogan. Very cool for the day when pinups were all the rage. No wait...that's today! :-)

Been a busy week but happy with the results. I didn't plan on keeping the flashing arrow but it's just way too cool when plugged in! Now where to put it..It's made by Superior and stands 6 1/2 ft tall. Any thoughts on what this type of arrow would have been used for...gas station any chance...lol?

Another great time at Iowa Gas. A lot of vendors, nice signs, pumps and other petro for sale, plus I saw a lot of friends from all corners of the country. Made a few buys, missed out on some too.

Got a pair of Sinclair Marine globes. The block lettered Sinclair was used from about 1955-1959. The italics version from probably 1959 to 1970. Both have two lenses on original Capcos

Next are a bunch of smalls, instant thermometer collection. The Molo on the left is porcelain. Also a couple rain gauges, delivery ticket boxes and a credit card machine;

Also got an oil can rack with a few composit cans thrown in;

A 12 inch single sided porcelain Oils sign. I already had a 6 inch version. A few of these just turned up, I was told they were found in a refinery in I believe Tulsa OK. There is also a 30 inch and a 48 inch version, possibly a 16 and 24 also?

Also picked up a repo Productos globe. I never saw an original one but have seen images of them on old map artwork. There is a porcelain keyhole sign similar to this design. I was told a limited number of these lenses were made. They are marked L-11 at the 12 oclock position in the red ring. Makes for a good night light in the den

Picked up a few signs from a gentleman who inherited them from his father-in-law. Initially asked about several he had for sale and staked my claim on the Quaker State; Fisk was still available when I arrived and the only one left, I just couldn't leave it behind after driving all that way.

Here are some of my buys from Iowa Gas.

Ryan brought me this pile down. I was just as excited to get these computers as the Sinclair sign.

Here is proof that you don't need to be the first one at the show to get something good. I could not believe this was still setting in the booth when I saw it. A lot of people should have seen this Sinclair sign before I did. It will look great in my Sinclair collection.

I had Wes Maxwell tell me there was a Wayne 60 in the back of a trailer, I ran over and sure enough it was in there but so was Gas Pump Rob. Here is a classic case where an item gets sold and resold at the same show. Rob bought it and I was the first to tell him if he wanted to make a little money on it I would appreciate the first chance. I brought this one home as a keeper. It truly is a showcase pump, same one Jim posted about. By the way, you will never meet a nicer person in this hobby than Gas Pump Rob. I hope he had a fun trip pickin his way back to SoCal.

Tom, great Sinclair sign. I just looked at mine and the matching fertilizer sign, they both have the four holes in them for mounting the sign to the wall. I did not see the sign before you got it or I would own two of them. Glad you ended up with the pump
