I'm picking up a 5ft American gas sign which has the flame as part of the whole sign instead of an addition mounted to the top. What do these signs date to use wise, are they 30s or 40s or did they use them in the 50s? Been trying to find an example online but haven't seen anything similar, just the larger with the detachable flame.

AMOCO; Had steel framed Porcelain 2 pc torch sign starting in 1961 along with a tin litho diecut sign also in 1961...

AMOCO; did use the AMOCO with the torch and oval in some regions, beginning in 1956....

AMOCO; started using AMERICAN AMOCO GAS in 1931....

The above info comes from Scott and Wayne's: "Oil Company Signs; A Collector's Guide"..... Page 18....
