I was able to purchase this fabulous sign, a sign that no one I can find has ever seen before, we think it came from northern California. Two were found, this one and a larger one, both in terrible condition. This is a two sided sign and I'm showing the damaged portion that both sides looked like....until I gave it to Dan Van Kennel. I think I did the right thing restoring only one side. Dan also has found a poor copy of a Giant Gasoline station

Ray, IMO for whatever that's worth... You did the right thing and restored a nice bit of Gas and Oil History....

Impressive restoration! Looked at his website and WOW! I presume his work quickly gets up into the upper 3 digits and even into 4 digits?

Looks good Ray; Yes restoring the sign was the right choice IMO. I also own a fairly rare sign that Van Kennel restored on just one side.

why does the word mileage look so weird, did you have enough from the other side to show that's the way it was?

...you only did one side, so I don't think there's any danger it would be passed off as unrestored down the road...I don't think it adds any 'collector value' to the sign...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Ray - I think it looks awesome man! The mileage is weird (thats the way it came smile Dan has its larger counterpart...will post a pic once she's here in NC. My sign is the same shape (almost an egg)...I believe mine was a curb sign...and your's may have been off the side of a visible, station display or something. I've only seen one pic of a station that Dennis put up here on oldgas for me a few months back.

In thread above; Just noticed that painted large sign on left appears to be on a quickly erected billboard [note Brace at top of sign to top of station] to stop neighbors customers from entering/exiting on Giant property! smile

That is one long brace DB! I hope it wasnt erected in a high wind area...maybe the supersized sign fell on our signs and thats why they are/were so darn rough smile
