Been looking for a few nice Red Indian signs but have pretty much determined that many are out of my league for the most part when it comes to signs that are in mint condition. For the time being, I'm looking for signs that are far from mint, but begging to be saved and plan to have a couple restored for my own use until I find the right deal on some nice untouched signs.

The first to go under the knife will be this 36" Motor Oils sign that I recently bought from auction. It has some horrible touch ups on one side, and a nasty looking back side that's begging for professional restoration work. Enter Dan Van Kennel who the sign is en-route to this week. Going to let him work his magic on the sign so it can be displayed along side some other RI signs and next to a pump that I'm restoring in Red Indian. Some will say that full on resto's have run their course, but I'm a firm believer that some of these rusty old signs are perfect for full on restorations. This one is a perfect candidate in my eyes.

Here's some pics before it's restored, and I'll post some finished pictures when it's back in a month or so from now.

Going to look at cleaning up the rusty side, get rid of some staining and leave it original complete with the 3 bullet marks. The side that someone attempted to restore is the side that will be completely redone. It's only original once so they say and I'm kinda digging the divots that the bullets left on the head. Might even be 4 of those that look like they're from a 22cal.

I like the attention they pay to detail and their shelving process is fantastic. Can't wait to see it restored and hang it up next to some others. It should come back looking like this on the restored side except for the wording being Gasoline & Motor Oils.
