I'm no expert by any means, but my first impression of this sign is that it's a reproduction.

Well, check the seller's other items for sale. Most are reproduction signs. Now, look who's bidding for this Gulf sign. I don't see any of the usual Gulf big hitters on it. Put two and two together!!

My 2c.

...I know where the seller got this sign, 'cause I got one from the same reputable dealer...and it's NOT a repro...the seller's other repro signs are porcelain, clearly marked 'VC' for Vintage Concepts...I've bought from the seller for 10 years and have never had him misrepresent a repro as an original item...

...that said, the sign is dated 1963, is painted metal, and was used on the Gulf Tire Mart sheds that sat in front of/alongside the station...almost immediately after the shed/signs were made, Gulf changed their logo to the current one...the signs were replaced with the new logo...I suspect many of the older logo signs were never installed...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
