Here is the situation. I purchased a globe from another member on this site on June 10. When it arrived it was damaged...due to poor packaging. It was not doubled boxed and in a box that was way too small. Long story short we agreed to a partial refund of $100 as one lens and the metal body were okay. The problem is I have not received my partial refund and the member has cut off all communication with me...his last pm agreeing to the partial refund was June 26. I have sent numerous pm's, I have tried regular email, and I have tried calling him, but I see him posting on this site almost daily. As a longtime member of this site do I have any recourse? Its really not about the money...at this stage of my life a 100 bucks isn't going to make or break me. Its about participating on this great site with a bunch of people that you can trust.

...don't kid yourself, $100 bucks is real money...and there's no shame in wanting the other person to live up to their word...fair is fair...

I agree with Mark... If you had agreed on a price and then held back $100; I can't think of anyone here who would say... No problems...

I can think of 2 options for resolution;

#1: Ask Jim if he will become involved in working out this difficulty...

#2: If after this thread, the Member still won't send the refund in a "VERY TIMELY MANNER"... Notify Jim that you will name the Member....

We are a very small Community and as a Member I want to know who I can trust and not trust with my money..... If a Member will "short change" another Member in regards to a transaction... They won't hesitate to do it to me.... I want to know before a transaction comes back to possibly bite me.....

Well, if he's reading this, he should man up and tell you what the deal is, instead of leaving you guessing! Either hes going to pay & when--or he has no intention of paying!
Hes actually got a good deal going with you because I believe its the sellers responsibility to get the item there safely!
Earlier this year, I bought an item from a member that was damaged when it arrived and he was super about it! He refunded me the total, along with what I'd paid for shipping! Real stand up guy!
Another incident with a member was when I got some ad glass and it arrived broken! I sent him pictures of the item and returned it in the same box. I got a message apologizing for his lousy packing job and a total refund!
Now thats the way it should be done! Thats the way I would do it!

When you order anything from a manufacture & it arrives damaged, manufacture doesn't reply with "You didn't pay for insurance, it's your loss", they Replace or Refund your Total. A Happy Customer will buy again.

I have Always said & felt, It's the seller that is responsible for Insurance. They are the one that needs to package the item so it arrives in the same condition as Sold & Sent. DON'T blame it on a shipping company, WE all know how they treat POORLY Packaged Item! Scott B. as said every globe/glass items needs to be package so that it will survive a 6' or more drop.

The BS of eBay sellers charging Buyer for Insurance is BS. Buyer isn't the one "protectively packaging" the item.

Seller, IF you said you'd Return $100, Do It.

Sure hope that Cast Iron base I just sent isn't thrown on to a Poorly wrapped item, it weighed almost 38#!

Worked in the Hub at UPS when I first started with them. The little bombs of cast iron would go down the under slide and hit the big boxes with lots of peanuts in them and just explode when they hit. Everyone just yelled and the peanuts would just fly up in the air. Your story reminded me of this and how you should pack in case of.

Tough position? Tough for a nice guy like TeeTee to not publicly throw the seller under the bus like he deserves. Those of us who know TeeTee, know what a good guy he is - as evidenced by his willingness to take the $100 as compensation for what once WAS a nice complete globe that didn't arrive safe due to seller's negligence. He could have just told seller to have it picked up and demanded a full refund. Seller needs to step up and make this right. We all need to work together to keep this site the great place it is.

Don't kill me guys if this has been discussed before..if it was I missed it..other forums I frequent have a place in the 'for sale' section to leave comments about buying/selling experiences you've had with other members. Has that idea ever been kicked around by the members? Pros and cons both ways I'm sure.

Good luck Tee Tee on getting your money back.

I think you should tell us who it is so we can all be cautious when dealing with this person. If he wasn't a member on this site, but just a random seller on eBay I'm sure you would have already give us his eBay name! Don't let him off the hook just because he's a member of this site. Everyone needs to be held accountable, it shouldn't matter if their a member of the site or not.

On a side note, sorry to hear you're having issues.

I have to agree with ousting the guy. You are very reasonable for only wanting a partial refund as opposed to a full refund.

There are always 2 sides, we have heard 1 & expressed our opinions. Hopefully the other side stands up & does what he said he would.
It is a shame it had to be aired here in General.

Guys! Don't be so quick to judge, as we're only hearing one side of the story! Things are always viewed differently by others, and its not our place to pass judgement but only to pass our opinions from past experience!
I have to believe there may be extenuating circumstances that we aren't aware of, and that this may take care of itself! The fact that we have exposed our thoughts on the subject should be enough to give sway to anyones thoughts of right or wrong on the subject and bring about some sort of quick resolution. I would hope that anyone in this position would weigh their own thoughts against the collective, and realize the error of their ways!
Hopefully this will resolve itself!

I like your efforts to give everyone a fair shake KW. It is true that we only have one side of the story - but TeeTee can be vouched by many others besides me on this site I'm sure. The seller has not responded to emails, PMs or calls for over a month!! I like the 24 hour plan outlined above, after that let the chips fall where they may. "Say what you mean, mean what you say, and do what you say" as the old adage goes.

Another negative part to this whole situation is that a real nice original globe got damaged and that this could have been avoided had the globe been shipped properly. The topic of "shipping globes" has been discussed in this forum extensively; so there is no excuse for this short cut by the seller.

This seems quite clear to me. I've never been one to ignore the obvious. No need to make excuses for the seller. Here's my fair shake on this:

1. Seller failed to take the care needed to package a fragile item. Don't have to be very smart to realize that care should be taken to package a globe.

2. Seller agreed to reimburse $100.00. To date seller has failed to refund the monies.

3. Seller has been ignoring purchaser for the past 6 weeks. If you are on this site and don't answer your PM's..that's intentional and blatant.

I fail to see why or how some of you can be sympathetic. This was not a accident. But rather a bunch of bad choices by the seller. At the very least; seller is deserving of some well earned negative public scrutiny. Quit protecting his identity.

Seller needs to quit acting like a puss and grow a pair and deal with the situation!

Click on TeeTee (blue letters on the left side of his post in this thread) and when the drop menu opens then click on view posts. Then scroll down to the message dated June 3, 2012 and then you will know who the seller is.

Like KZ1000 said, exactly 3 mouse clicks away from knowing who it is.

Before you throw somebody under the Bus make sure you have your Facts straight, I sold him a Single lense in a capco. Not a 2 lense 15" globe in a metal ring. TeeTee even states in his first post of the Thread June 10th not the 3rd. Maybe you should slow down a Bit before going all CSI on us!!!

Jason Esse is correct, he is not the subject of my post. I did buy a 99 Octane single and capco body from Jason a week earlier than the damaged Ethyl globe and it arrived safe and sound.

Sorry for the confusion Jason.
