Dick,
I see you already edited the link to get it to work.

Wish I could have bid in that auction.

No Gilbarco fans there I guess....plus nobody wants to buy pumps through the online bidding and then pay big bucks for shipping.

Aye-karumba.....

If it had been an Aumann sale, I bet a lot of the items would have gone higher.

Yes, at the Hamilton, Ill. sale last month a Wayne Cut 515 visible, fully restored with original Standard globe, only brought something like 1300 dollars and they had to work and work to try to get THAT. That pump was beautifully done w/ pinstripping, brass rods and hardware---the whole nine yards. The man who owned that pump HAD to have more than that in it.

I guess you never know at an auction just what is going to happen....

I was there.

Basically, it was just wierd, and I can't explain it. I can't even explain why I didn't bid on more pumps.

Phil McCauley bought most of them, and was usually the only bidder.

There was a huge crowd arouond the pumps as they were being sold, but nobody was bidding. Over by the pumps, where the crowd was, it was very hard to understand the auctioneer due to acoustics. He was perfectly audible from the seating area.

I wish I'd gotten one of the 25-dollar Gilbarcos. Tara said she liked them after they were sold. Doh...

I did get one pump though

I must say that it was a very funny thing that the pumps went as cheap as they did. First, I want to say I enjoyed myself and seeing all the old gas guys there. Dad and I bought alot of the pumps but quit due to the U-haul being full. I saw about 25 AO Smith L-3 sell outside for $2.50 each. Yes, the decimal was in the correct position. My guess was that all the pumps were full of guts, missing face plates, trim, that is all I can think of. There just were not many pump buyers there. Myself, dad and another guy were the only ones buying the pumps. I do not know why they all sold so cheap, but we brought an overloaded truck home. We bought mounds of parts, and most of this stuff we watched people buy at the sale was being sold at Peotone this morning. The $5 pumps were selling at the show for $125, pretty good return for an overnight investment. I can still sell pumps really well and have not seen a slow down in the market. I can say that we were grinnnig like a chesser cat. Anyone got a door for a Rapidayton cash recorder pump? Wes, I do have some Gilbarco's if you want me to hang on to one for you.

Thanks, Phil

Thanks, Phil

I think maybe there was something wrong with proxibid. No? I only saw a few internet buyers. That would really suck for the seller.

The story I heard on the Tokheim 36B was that it was in pieces at the time it was auctioned. Only after the auction lot ended, were the doors and computer brought over and they said, These go with that. I wasn't there, but I wish I could have been there.
