It's funny, I can't even sell legit dated Socony or Texaco plates for $150-$180 most of the time, and then I see this *****. lol

Here's another seller trying to make a quick buck. E-Bay listing # 271034849124. He has three others listed auction style that are in the $20-$30 range with 3-4 days before auctions end. Protects himself by stating, "I believe it is from the 30's or 40's.".

What makes this stand out as a repo? I of coarse just want to protect my best interest as well as other fellow collectors , and any wisdom I can gain will be passed along. There should be a law for reproducing stuff like this , with the intention of knowingly and eluding one to believe it's a true original , especially as so many of us have and are investing a lot of hard earned money , just wanted to understand what I am missing here? Thanks all.

Kyle, I have never knowingly sold anything that was a repro or I thought might be a repro. Why don't you look at my ebay auctions and see how fake my stuff is? I have made plenty of money on real items, I don't need to defraud anyone. I have beaten that dead horse until it was dead, became a zombie, and died again. I bought that sign from a good collector friend of mine, he has a collection of a couple of hundred signs, same place I get all of my stuff from. I trust him, still do. We all make mistakes and learn. I can honestly say I have talked to enough people, I PROBABLY wouldn't buy that sign again, and have learned in the months since to stick more towards what I know. Again, if I was in the repo business, I'd be happy to be shelling out $20 a pop for repros making $200+ on each one, instead of paying hundreds for the signs I get now, and barely squeezing buy with $25-$150 on each, and losing money sometimes. I offer 14 days to return anything I ship, just in case the collector notices something I don't, so please, don't question my integrity. We have all made mistakes, I learned, even though I'm not 100% sure it was a mistake, I learned enough, and talked to my buddy about it, and it will not happen again.

To answer your question Travis. If you search on ebay, there are 50+ signs, just exactly like the Texaco, same date, rolled the same exact way. Also, the diameter and the fact that 90% of Texaco's plates are square, that is what I personally notice.

I appreciate the response , I'm just trying to get facts? You knowhttp://www.oldgas.com/forum/images/general/default/newposts.gif I hate to ask dumb questions , but as a old timer co worker always told me(the dumb question is the on you don't ask about! )The sign looked real and i just wanted to educate myself if this was a fake . Again thanks.

Not one of us learned overnite, it took years of collecting stuff we liked and researching it, there is no way to "teach" someone what took years to accumulate. We collected what we liked and did not give a care if we paid more than others would pay, we collected what we liked and learned as we went along.

For the benefit of the newcomers, when we don't see it in PCM's pump restoration book and we do see it in Vic's catalog that is enough for many of us.One thing does puzzle. That 9",while the pops are 11 3/4".I don't know how to do it,but it would be interesting if someone asked him to verify that measurement.
