Cameras are just another layer of security, and if your shop or building is armed with a decent alarm, the cameras can be configured to stream live video to your iPhone in the event that the alarm goes off. That's give's you an edge to catch someone in the act, and if you call the popo while you're telling them what's happening on the video, they're twice as likely to respond quicker and perhaps catch the scum bags red handed. Trust me...the more layers of security you have, the better off you'll be. I've been a security professional for 30 years now and I'm also a certified master locksmith.

Actually Bob's plants did stop a break in when he lived in an apartment--before my time. The guy didn't get far, and left with at least one still attached!

About security, probably #1 is if you or anyone else is taking photos of your stuff with a smart phone, to disable the gps marker on the photo. I don't have a smart phone, but I hear this can be a problem...can't be stolen if they don't know where it is. BTW Bob corrected me on the break-in. It was his neighbor coming home drunk. Though he had locked himself out of his own apartment so was trying to get in through the window. Bob never did ask him for the plant back that hooked into him...

I have door alarms and a camera system.I don't place a lot of faith in the door alarms because its not that hard to take off a panel of sheet metal if you really want in. I have had some trouble with the infrared motion sensors, as the barn sometimes gets hot enough inside to trigger them. I think the numerous signs I have indicating "you are being taped" works as well as anything. I have let groups use the place for parties and birhdays and have never had anything disappear;however, it something I am concerned with.

I have 4 German Shepherds if someone breaths outside they hear it and start barking lol. I don't think anyone would even have a chance to open a door without getting ripped apart
