Hi, Gang. I've been out of the petroliana "circuit" for years, but have just started to buy a few things again. An old car hobby friend of mine has a Cities Service Koolmotor Oil sign that he would sell me, but neither of us has an idea of value. It is always difficult buying something from a buddy, isn't it?
This Koolmotor oil painted sign is 28" x 58", and pictures a can of the Cities Service Koolmotor oil, along with a 1940's vintage car and a truck. The colors are red and cream. The sign is mounted on a wood frame, and has a code number of "C-119" in the lower right corner. Could I get some idea of the sign's approximate "retail" value? Then, my friend and I will take it from there. Thanks, John in Wisconsin

There was a seller on e-bay from WI with this same sign last month. First auction started with $5000 opening bid. Then relisted and lowered to $2000 opening bid. I think it went unsold. Maybe the same sign. For my 2 cents, I'd say $600. This sign shows up somewhat regularly, and its painted, not porcelain.

Thanks for all the help, guys. Wow sandman325, that is quite the report on the similar sign you saw on eBay. I didn't spot it. I agree, that seller's asking price(s) do sound way off base. I know for sure that was not my friend's sign. He doesn't sell on eBay...fact is he seldom buys or sells anything anymore. Me either! That is why neither of us had any idea what I should be paying him, if I buy this Cities Service sign from him. Brad from this forum has offered to post a photo of the sign to remove any doubt. I just emailed it to him, so the picture will be on here soon. Again, I appreciate the input. John in Wisconsin

I saw this sign with several rust spots with an asking price of $375 a couple years ago.
