I bought this curb sign base on ebay and the ad specifically said "no cracks, breaks or welds". Well, when I received it, the center pipe was welded in place and that wouldn't be so bad but it wasn't welded straight! I asked the seller if he would pay to fix it and he just said to send it back because there was a guy there in Missouri that wanted it!
Fine by me as he was willing to pay return freight too but I just want you Missouri guys to know what you're getting from this seller and I don't think you'll be happy! This is just a heads up so that you know what you're getting! The seller is Michael Hutchison and uses "f12packard" on ebay.
As for me, I'm on the hunt for one again!

What would be so tough about cutting the pipe out and cleaning it up with a grinder?

I'm pretty sure the threads are probably shot and was the reason for welding it and I didn't pay for something that needed work!

Looks to me like the farmer wanted a larger pipe to hold his Vise or grinder!
Flip it over & check for threads.

Threads don't look good underneath at all. I figure it will take a machine shop to get it right again.

Kevin, I think a machine shop could mill the pipe down and then cut new threads in it.

I just rethreaded the bung on my compressor to run 1" ridgid around my shop. (I know its overkill, the 1" is t-tapped for 3/8 drops). It can be done, not sure if final product would leave evidence of earlier problem. The internal pipe taps or bolt taps are all over the swap meets, as they are used 1000 times less than there counteparts. No one ever thinks that they will have a use for them.

I meant After the pipe was cut an base was drilled out Dick. Some of the signs look wrong with a wide pole:)

I'm with Kevin on this one, It is not what he was led to believe. It is not an easy or cheap fix if you can't do it yourself, when you have to fix something the original price should reflect that.

The seller was real nice about it and even said he would refund the return postage, which most will NEVER do, but I thought I was buying an original base with "NO CRACKS, BREAKS, OR WELDS" and thats what I should have gotten.
I have no problem with it but he's passing it on to another buyer in Missouri and if its a member here, I wanted them to know about the problem.
Maybe they won't care and the problem is resolved! LOL

Kevin, I think your being tough on the seller as he will refund your money and all of it,,,no other guestions asked,, I think you need to give the guy credit not negative feedback... JMO.,

Kevin...
None of my business, but why not repair the item? There doesn't seem to be many around or you would have several by now. Nice looking piece anyhow...
