Ok -- some more Fry 117 questions:

What are these floats for? There are two of them way up at the top of the brass pipe that goes up the middle of the cylinder.

Is there something that hangs from the hooks on the bottom of the "to car - to Storage" thing?

Does anyone make decals/vinyl to replace the "TO CAR" and "TO STORAGE" words on the float?

Thanks again!
Chris

It was attached to top of Overflow pipe. When overflow pipe was lowered to bottom, the hook on bottom pushed sign up to show TO STORAGE in small window. IF overflow was any where off bottom TO CAR will show in window.

If you don't have all of the parts for this assembly, these three photos show the complete unit ready to attach to the regulator pipe.

Savinsam --
Man, that whole assembly looks great! Is it copper plated? The one we're working on is aluminum.

How did you restore the "TO CAR" and "TO STORAGE" words on the float?

Thanks!

My 17 still has this in it,pretty rare to find these intact. Or a least they tell me so. DB explained how it works, what fuction-purpose is still in question. My only guess is a reminder that drain back tube is not moved up to desired gallon marker.

Chris, the unit is aluminum, but photo makes it look like copper.
This is a NOS unit that's never been mounted. Everything is original. I'm surprised that no one has reproduced these. Sam

I worked in a foundry for 14 years and though this unit is fairly simple. It would be fairly costly to make patterns, a sand core box, machine the castings, and assemble. How many would you have to sell to recoup your initial investment and what is the potential market for this product?
I remember years ago when a gentleman had a globe mold made for a rare gumball machine. I was told that he never sold enough to pay for the mold and sold it.

W/O liquid in Cyl. when raised it will still read TO STORAGE. Nothing to FLOAT YOUR CORK!
