I was just wondering if someone could tell me approximately how old a quart tin can of Silver Shell SAE 30 oil might be as well as an approximate value. The can is full, great condition, blue and silver. There is a similar can on Ebay right now but it doesn,t say how old it is. Thanks! Ratmotor.

I've only seen that can in the imperial qt. size. I believe its from the 1930's, but I'm not sure. I paid $12 for mine about 2 years ago and its in very good condition.

Thanks for the info. I see the empty can on Ebay sold for $41.00 . Are full cans worth a certain percent more? Thanks.Ratmotor.

Ratmotor,
Not AFTER they fall off the shelf and hit a globe! Then you have to empty them to take out the dents.
Check with your insurance carrier to see how many full qts you can have, before you void your insurance.

It doesn't make any difference if the cans are full or not. But a not full can would still probably break a globe. Maybe you should ut them on different shelves.!

good after noon Ratmotor , I've never had that can and you can't git a good look at it .but as for me , they started putting oil in cans back east in 1928an 29 , useing soilder seams , they didn't git started out here till 1929 or 30, they just started switching over to crimped cans in 1940 when the war came along , in 45 when the war was over some companys still use soilder seamed till they got set up for crimped , as far as that logo , shell use it back in the beginning , so they could have used that logo early , they came back and used it agin with an up date to it , but i still didn't answer your question and with out looking at the side with the seam its hard to say ,
what type of seam does yours have ??? and as far as being full , it doesn't matter , your buying the advertisement and graphics ,
i'll send a picture to Mr. Potts , of some cans and you tell me switch is the most exspensive

I checked the can yesterday for you , an sence ebay is the bargain place and you might want to sell this can at a gas bash or swap meet , i'd add 25.00 dollars to it ,

as far as when it was put on the market , you might want to check with a Canadian collector , go to the front page and go under collectors , then canada , and look up can collectors , and ask one , because they might not have stopped oil can production from 1940 to 1945 , but that is a nice can.

My point being on the cans , it doesn't matter if there full or empty , the cans i win on ebay i ask if they would drain them if there full , and i tell them how i want them drained , these cans in the picture , some are full , the Riolube , be cause of the rarity 1,400.00 and it doesn't matter ,
and if you leave the oil in them the pressor can dent them , so good luck on that can ,

Thanks for all the help guys! I always thought a full can would be worth more as the tops wouldn,t be damaged. Now I,m that much wiser!Ratmotor.
