Good day all. I have a question and want your opinion. I have a few higher dollar items (signs) and if I sold them, what is the best way? Oil and Gas Auction, Ebay, Shows, etc. Would appreciate your thoughts and opinions on the plusses and minuses and costs of doing it. I am familiar with Ebay, but wondered if an oil and gas show auction wouldbe better and what types of costs yourun into. I will be traveling and will just sit back and watch you all throw in your two-cents.

I also have some restored pumps and wonder what is the best way to dispose of them as well.

Thanks

Alex

I would think a gas oil show swapmeet would be best.Unless you have alot of items to sell at a well advertized auction.Ebay is great, your putting your items in front of millons of people, but then you have to ship all the big stuff which can be a pain. Why don't you post pics on this site you may have alot of it disappear without doing to much.Good luck Joe

Chris, Why is he a buzzard for asking? The man said he had some nice stuff for sale. Another guy steps up and says he might be interested. Sounds like it could work out well for both parties.

Alex,
If you know what you want for them put a price on the and advertise them here on this site.
A good way to sell high end signs and globes is at auction. Matthews Auctions would be a great choice of auctioneers. Dan managed Aumann's petro auctions in the past. He has started his own company. Aumanns are still doing petro auctions too. I'd consign them with one of those auction firms at one of their sales that are held in conjunction with the bigger petro shows (Iowa Gas or Columbus). Talk with the auction managers to see if your expectations are realistic before consigning anything.

Alex,
You are welcome to post pictures of your items on the For Sale forum of Shop Talk. Ask for the price you want and negotiate if you want. If the items sell or not, the service is free.

There are many buyers who watch these pages. I think we have more silent watchers than we have active members. The silent guys will send email messages directly to you, or call on the phone if you post your number.

Give it a try. Won't cost you a thing. Then you can decide on eBay, swap meet or live auction for "plan B."

If you decide on eBay, you can post the auction numbers on Shop Talk to promote them. If you decide on a live auction, let me know and I'll add the auction to our Events page.

Dick,
Yeah, I know. Alex has something he wants to sell. Jim says he might be interested and gets called a buzzard for it.

Hi Guys. I appreciate the feedback. And I don't mind people asking what I have. Aas some of you know I mostly have Texaco and I have been kicking around the idea of piecing it out vs. boxing it all up and handing it over to an auction house. When I started this it was somethig to do with my son and to accumulate value for his college fund. I am just looking down the road and want to be able to get fair value. As I decide to do this I will definitely keep you all posted and post things here, or if I go throughebay, will list through here so the site can get some $$$ as well. This site as been the best help to me over the years and I really appreicate it.

No Grizzly stuff left. That beauty ended up with a collector from this site. I do have access to one or two (not mine) of the big White Eagle statues. Will post pics as I move ahead. Keep throwing out those thoughts and ideas. I really appreciate it.

Alex

I think ebay is the way to go because it is fair to all and avoids hard feelings. You won't end up with one guy saying to you " why did you sell it to him, I would of liked to have it", or missing out on it from this site because you only check in once in the evening hours. That being said, I'm looking for an 8"X12" Indian Gas sign or other Texaco items such as your 15" Texaco globe!

Vern
