I need some assistance with a Wayne 276 pump (see photo below). How does the top cylindrical movable section release to slide down to expose the internal mechanisms of the pump? Thanks.

The outter shell is Counter weighted on two chains . These chains allow the shell to slide freely and be locked so as to allow the station owner to close for the evening. I would contact jack Sim here as I'm sure he probably even has repair manuals for it . Ed Shaver
see ya on the road folks !

IF it ain't locked, grab it in a bear hug & pull down like your pulling his pelt off for a Bear Skin RUG! IF that don't work, you'll have to lay it down & disassemble. Keep a list going on dis-assembly for for Re-assembly later [reverse order!].

I have a copy of the patent for the pump which includes schematic diagrams. The patent document discusses the counter weights and the fact that the section just slides down and up as Ryan and Ed have noted. With that in mind, it might be that I'm just not pushing hard enough...it's a little dirty so there might be some debris in the chain mechanism. I will give it another try.
Thanks for the quick feedback.

The whole you see on the round point is the lock, so it not locked. The trouble is the couter weights get rusted inside the tube assembly and is a real pain to open.
Looks like a pretty clean pump if you can get r open.

Dont feel bad, mine was the same way when I found it. I had to (as Dick pointed out) literally pull down on the shell so the chains and counterweights start to free up. Its a pain in the rear but don't give up. Its probably a good thing that its been stuck closed because theres a chance that the numbers on the clock face dial as well as the glass are still in excellent shape. You should also be able to find two brass tags and another small triangle-shaped tag which swings in order to oil the inside mechanisms. Good luck, Goober

Most likely that the pulleys for the chains are rusted to shafts, than the Sash Weights are rusted stuck in the pipes.
If the bottom of dome casting is right at 5.5' [+/-] it's a 276, but Until you get the sleeve down, I can't tell whether it's a 276, 280 or 302 in the picture.
