I purchased a vintage UNION 76 first aid kit. Someone covered up the writing with orange vinyl tape.It is now very brittle. Trying to figure out how to remove it. Tried my heat gun on low and it wants to bring the tape and paint below it. Tried a "chisler" plastic scraper for removing vinyl and not much luck. Soaked with Desolve It and it can not penetrate the vinyl. Looking for ideas. Jim

There are spray on products for removing vinyl pin stripping & graphics off of vehicles without damaging the paint. Check with Napa or other automotive parts stores.

I'd lay it in the sun for a few minutes Before using any chemical remover. The sun might soften the vinyl just enough to remove.

In a small place try Goof Off or Crud Cutter. I use them to remove stuff like this including tape residue. Let us know how it works for you.

I use a rubber wheel (much like eraser material)in a handheld drill to reomove pinstriping and door decals from trucks. Works like a charm and doesn't harm the paint. Most auto paint stores will have one. Don't know how it will work on striping this old and brittle.
