Does anyone know if there is a way to ID one of these script tops as a factory original and not converted...say a serial# range or series code on the ID plate? Or asked another way are there any unique identifying properties that seperate it from the other 80's (say the normal or add glass top) other than the metal script top? Thanks.

In my experiences of twenty years, factory script tops are stamp cut on steel. Repro tops being fiberglass. Pretty easy to determine. Same goes for Ad top model. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Paul, i think hes wanting to know how you could tell if a wayne or m/s 80 was originally built at the factory as a scriptop or if someone has added an original scriptop to a plain topped 80 (which i have done i must confess!).

Hi all....Thanks for the replies. So far it seems there was a difference in series codes between flat tops and script/ad tops but now can't determine if there was a difference in codes between ad tops and scripts. After looking at Jack's links, which show 1-B and 1-T series they both describe ad tops but show scripts AND ads; the only noticable difference being the hose length.

Hoping anyone with a script top (and/or ad top) can chime in maybe with their series codes.

Other differences look like bullseye faceplates vs rectangular and the round metal plate attached to the side of the pump that surrounds the reset handle....some do and some don't have it.

Paul...i'm Curious...was the EVER a repop metal top for these pumps?

Thanks.

The series number on my sunoco scriptop is: 1QR

The serial number is: 38303

I thought my top was original to the pump. I could be wrong though.

Thanks Jason. Note sure about all the codes so we dont want to jump to conclusions just yet. The ones i'm looking at say 1T and they have the original dual porclain light sockets up top, and what looks like original tops as the color and wear are consistent. There may not be an absolute answer as the companies who ordered them and the companies who made them probably mixed it up over the years. Lets see if others can chime in. Thanks.

Hi Bill. Yes that helps a lot...thanks for sharing. To reiterate what i think i've learned so far, the 1B and 1T could have been both scripts or ad tops, the only differences between 1B and 1T being the hose lengths. Regards and thanks for the effort. Steve.
