Well I'm back to take a make a quick totie (or 2) and grab a bite to eat with some new buddies here in Hershey. All I have to say is where have I been my whole life with this carnival less then 600 miles from my front door every year since like 1974. Count on Maxgas to be a regular till they put me in the dirt. I found my home and will come for as long as I can. Maybe next year I'll bring so much stuff that I'll actually have some good stuff left for the non venders. It was great to meet all the people I have spoken with on line and others whom I've read their add or a snip-it in the gas publications etc. Can't wait until tomorrow!!!!!!!! I'm in the Red field come and say HI.

Its crazy cool in Hershey. With so many people flying in from other countries to visit this show, there is no reason anyone here in the states should miss it! Cant wait to run around there on Thursday!

see me at Mason Dixon Gas, Spring Carlisle M114-115, and Hershey C4E-35.

I think you may be off a little bit on the 1974 date. I remember taking my daughter to Hershey when she was one year old and that was in 1959.
It was mainly a car show, but a few vendors did show up. There were no assigned spaces and tables had not been invented yet, they just threw a tarp or quilt on the ground and put their parts on them. Most of the people walking around were in very nice dress, including some suits.
1959 was also the year I purchased a 1930 Studebaker Roadster from George Hughes Jr. In case you don't know who George Hughes Sr. was, first he was one of the founders of the AACA and the high wheeler race held the Saturday of Hershey in the stadium, is for the George Hughes trophy. GH Jr. sold me the Studebaker for $100.00, because I had done him a favor, I had taken him to a ladies house in Philadelphia where George Jr. was able to purchasse a 1916 Harley for $30.00.
Man, those were the good old days.

Back from my first day of my first visit to Hershey. That place is big. Could only do about 2/3 the swap before my feet were ready to fall off. Boy these guys on the east coast sure sleep in. It was like a ghost town early today. In CA. we start at 5 am. Ted

When I was growing up, my dad took me to Hershey every year. I can remember vendors setting up earlier and a lot of business was taking placd before sunrise. Not sure what happened, but it seems to get later and later every year.

see me at Mason Dixon Gas, Spring Carlisle M114-115, and Hershey C4E-35.

for a one or two day show, sure they'll get going early. But when these vendors are there for 4-5 days ALL day- they don't seem to get in too big of a hurry.

Thanks for the correct start date information and the memories shared. Maybe 74' was the year my friend Larry started coming down from Maine. I'm on wiki now trying to date the invention of the table. LOL

I've been doing Hershey for quite a few years. There is no reason to start earlier than 8 A.M. because it is usually just a parking lot before that. I'm in the booth at 7 but no one shows up till later? As for sales, as with most shows, unless you are giving stuff away, you sell best on Saturday when folks realize that the end is near. I agree with gasmansgp, the best sales are on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday was usually the day when I had a very large pocket of mondy and was very happy with what I had sold. I was usually packing and some people would come by who had been there previously. They came looking for a deal, and since I already had a pocket of money,I would make many deals, just as long as I was making a profit on the items I was selling. Sundasy is the day use just ask yourself, am I making a profit on this sale, if so, sell it. It might be as much as what you have been asking, but if it is a profit, sell it.
There is nothing better than a pocket of money when you find that next item to buy.
