Randy, all of the "Older " Gulf dealers , at least those around here in Virginia that were Dealers really were independent dealers . I know Gulf had several locations here in Richmond Virginia from at least 1958 onward that really were Company owned and operated Gulf stations . We also had a Dealer Training service station here too. It was at Westwood Avenue and West Broad Street- U. S. 250......... Ed Shaver

I always said I owned a Shell station, but I didn't, Shell owned it,they trained me, and leased me the station, I was referred to as a Dealer.
This was the same when I took over a Phillips 66 station, except Phillips didn't have any training program.

So it's the difference between a corporate station and a franchise?
