Picked up this sign last weekend which I presume is from a display stand.Any help on identifying what would have been in the center rectangle cut out?

Looks like they might have had a tester there which showed the strength of the battery.

I'd guess a display battery.

If it were a display battery holder then there is a missing piece that bolts through the hole in the display. I find that unlikely as you'd want to have pretty decent reinforcement for any vintage battery case which tend to be quite heavy even without acid & plates in them.

I went through a guys GM collection yesterday and he has a complete display rack but missing this piece as well.He wasn't sure as to what original went there but remarked it must be eye catching because of the several displays he has seen all have been missing this item as well.He thinks possibly a glass meter or gauge.
