This Is one of my favorite finds ever. Heres the story.
I was wondering around the dirt roads of the north ga mountains. And from the road i could see this old chicken house and the woods around it full of "rust and dust". So with dust flying i my dad and i turned in. It was mostly junk car axels and such and farm stuff. But then there was this old ford car. A 38 i think but i might be wrong please tell me if you know. The 70 year old woman said it was her uncles. I told her i would love to buy the doors off of it. She couldnt figure out why but she said thats fine. For the price i paid for the doors she said i could have the whole car. Which was 25 dollars for both. She said her uncle was an old race car driver on saturdays and a moonshiner all week. She tells me this after he purchase was made so i completely believe her. In the mountains of ga if someone tells you someone was a moonshiner its true. So i pulled these doors off with a crowbar took the frame with them. The back seat of the car was gone and the rear wall of the cab was cut out for hauling shine so im told. And beefed up rear suspension. The liscense plate was still on it. It said 45 i think. Pure mountain folklore the history of nascar and petroliana all rolled into one. It doesnt get any better in my book. Ruff yes but couldnt be left behind.

That is actually a hand rail we call it twigg rail Here in ga. The post and the top And bottom are black locust just like split rail fences. And the twigg part is mt laurel mt folk call it ivy's. We have them same on the interior of the cabin but without the bark.

Great car story and cool fence. You all have a lot more mountain laurel then we in MD have. It must be really time-consuming to do the moutain laurel part...did you do yours yourself?

about the car...was it typical for local racers of that era to have sponsors? Or was the decal used in some way as a cover for having a hepped up car?

I did not do the laurel work you cant really buy it down here it has to be harvested in the national forest and the type of guys that do the work have the permits to do so. As for the race car i have no idea. In my mind i like to think a local pure station owner gave him some a few cents off per gallon to put the sticker on. But thats just in a hope and a prayer.

...cool doors, and story - but the decals are newer than the license plates, likely late 50's...

North georgia mountains are full of spots like that but most of the folks up
There are a little untrusting of city folks and outsiders. Alot of the real
Junky areas that are prime for hunting i think are still active moonshiners. Or at
Least im told.

I picked a fellow earlier this year in the mt's and we had a great time he had a bunch of nos gulf fan belts from the logo on them it was a 40s gulf belts. He asked me to come into the house and look at some other stuff. And offerd me some of his home made plum wine. I said sure im not a drinker
But with how the day with him went it just felt right. It was a jar of what looked like pink wine and there was some fruit floating in it. So i took a sip. It was strong for wine i told him. I said is this really plum wine. He said laughing out loud as i took another drink. Yeah its plum alright. "plum full of white liquor" . Neadless to say i couldnt drive my brother had to.
