I have this photo:

It is advertising a new grade of mobilgas?
Pic is not very clear what is the new grade of gas? I see the mobilgas & special grades there or was the special the new grade? pic looks to be early 1950's.

What are the advertising signs on the pumps look like cardboard or paper. I'm sure they are for the new grade just never seen before anyone got one to share a pic of. I want to see the logo in the middle of it.

Also is that a clockface still in use on the right?

I don't think it would be for the introduction of Mobilgas Special as it was around well before the photo was taken. I'm sorry I am unable to see the signs very well, even when it's slightly enlarged when you go to the Imageshack site.
My initial thoughts were the signs may be advertising MobilOIL Special, which came out in 1954 or so. The pumps were just not a point of sale site for gas, but for oil and other products the companies sold. I wish I could be of more help but I'm unable to see any details on the signs, and I have a pretty big monitor!

Probably used it for kerosene / fuel oil! Seems like old gas stations always had an old outdated pump for fuels they didn't sell much of.

Thanks
Mike

Tom sent me a slightly larger image & it confirmed the right pump as I stated, Bowser 410.
Couldn't get much else out of it.
Might be the New Grade is PREMIUM?

Could be Dick....I think Mobil started using that grade designation in 1962 or so.

Found this @ Wikipedia;
Quote:
In 1954, Mobil introduced a new and improved Mobilgas Special in response to trends toward new automobiles powered by high-compression engines that demanded higher and higher octane gasolines. The newest formulas of Mobilgas Special was advertised as offering "A Tune-Up in Every Tankful" due to a combination of chemicals known as the "Mobil Power Compound" which was designed to increase power, check pre-ignition ping, correct spark plug misfiring, control stalling and combat gumming up of carburetors. Later Mobil campaigns advertised Mobilgas as the "New Car Gasoline" following extensive testing during the annual Mobilgas Economy Run.

I believe I know where that station is. It's still standing and still a Mobil station. There were some signs up in the attic. The owner said he wouldn't sell them and he knew what they where worth. It was a Sunoco originally. Had a NOS Sunoco from the 20's and a NOS Pegasus. I heard a couple years ago he did end up selling, I believe he got like 5K for the Sunoco and alot for the Pegasus. My dad knows him.

Can't spell tonight......
