I am writing a story for the Megawheels section of The Globe and Mail on the disappearance of the old-style tire pumps at service stations that had an easily-readibly gauge where the desired pressure could be preset and a bell that stopped ringing when that pressure was reached. I understand ECO was the manufacturer.

Does anyone know if there are any of these pumps still in service in the Toronto area? Where are they?

Also, is there a collector in the Toronto area who has one of these pumps who would let me come and photograph it.

Any anecdotes or history about the old pumps is also welcome.

Thanks,
Doug McArthur

Doug, don't know about Toronto area air pumps, but you can check out this site for some photos. http://www.vintagegas.com/gallery/accessories

At the present time I am working on a Air Tower book where I will identify over 450 air meters used since 1897. I self-published a book on air meters back in 1996 where I identified only 170 and it was in black and white. This new book will be in color, just like the Gas Pump Identification book I wrote three years ago.
I have a picture of almost every Tireflator made by ECO (missing their #1 & #2) and I also own many giveaway items and testing equipment they provided. ECO probably manufactured more air meters than any other company, but meters made by American were in my opinion much more ornate.
You might want to take a look at my website, it contains a number of pictures of ECO meters. www.crspub.com
I would suggest you contact me by email with your needs.
