Hey folks,
can anyone care to guess what this is?
It has gear lube in it now and I know its
some kind of pump on top. It has the letters ARO on the carry handle and G2664 also on one side of handle. The crank knob is wooden. I would just like to know how old it is,if I should clean it up, paint it ,decal it or what.
My brother-in-law gave it to me and said it was from a old garage in New York.
Thanx for your help!
Mike

They look great painted up and decaled. It was used to put gear lube in differentials and trannies.

ARO was located in Bryant, Ohio, the same town where Service Station Equipment Co. was located (around 1929). I have an ad for ARO that is laid out exactly the same as the ECO and Bennett/Shotwell ads were, so they were definately part of SSEC.
ARO made mostly greasing equipment. The unit you found was one of their most popular units, it was in production for many years.
I have no evidence that any oil company purchased them and put their decal on them (this type of equipment was usually purchased by the station operator). That is not to say someone put a decal on them. Clean it up, and restore it the way you want.

Thanx Jack and Larry for the info,
I think I'll do just that, clean it up and set it in my garage.
Have a great day!
Mike
