ANYONE KNOW WHY THERE ISN'T A REPOP OF THE LAST KNOWN COMMON DERBY STAR GLOBE? I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANYONE OFFERING THESE AND IF THEY DON'T EXIST - WHY NOT? IS THERE SOME SORT OF TRADEMARK PROBLEM. I REALLY LIKE THE DERBY LOGO AND WOULD LIKE TO DO A PUMP UP SOMEDAY. BUT WITHOUT THAT GLOBE, IT'LL BE TOUGH.

ANYONE?

THANKS!

Not enough demand to justify the cost to repo.

I GUESS IT'S THE SAME SITUATION WITH THE CALSO REPOP LENSES I WAS LOOKING FOR A FEW YEARS AGO.
YOU WOULD THINK THAT CALSO AND DERBY WOULD QUALIFY FOR A 100 LENS RUN.WHAT WITH THE DOZEN OR SO CATALOG COMPANIES THAT OFFER SUCH REPOPS COULD SIT ON THESE AND HAVE THEM AVAILABLE. THESE 2 OIL COMPANIES AREN'T EXACTLY THAT UNCOMMON. YET THEY HAVE "THE BUSTED KNUCKLE GARAGE" LENSES! I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THESE AREN'T POPULAR ENOUGH IN THIS SOMEWHAT LARGE HOBBY. IT JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU - YOU CAN'T HAVE IT ALL. I WOULD ENTERTAIN THE PURCHASE OF AN ORIGINAL SET OF LENSES IF ANYONE WERE SELLING A PAIR.

THANKS!

Doc, I sold an original Derby on this site a few months back for $225. I know that's a little more than double of a repop but it's still a reasonable globe to buy. I could see them repop a $4000 globe before a $400 or $500 globe.
There is nothing better than showing my Tokheim 39 and saying it's all original... until i have to say... well the pump signs are repop but i am still looking for a nice matching set. LOL

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

HERE IS THE DERBY LENSE STYLE I NEED JUST SO THERE'S NO CONFUSION:

NOT EVEN THE OLDER 1930'S DERBY LOGO HAS NO REPOP LENS, YET I THINK IT'S A CLASSIC LOGO. I WONDER IF IT'S A TRADEMARK COPYRIGHT THING? ON THE OTHER HAND THEY DO MAKE REPOPS OF THE OLDER LOGO ON METAL SIGNS...GO FIGURE?!!

THANKS!

Doc...Dick hit the nail on the head about demand. The reason I went thru the trouble to make the Busted Knuckle globe is that I had a 100% commitment to take the first run of 50 globes (100 lenses) @ $85/each. By doing so, all the artwork & 5 screens could easily be paid for so then I could afford to make the 2nd 100 and sit on them for a year (which is about how long it takes to run through a slow-moving lens batch). I am on my 4th or 5th run of these and although they are pretty much a slow-mover, it doesn't matter much since I can pick up the phone at any time and get 100 without any art, set-up or screen charge.

Doc...I will make you this deal, IF you will sell 36 lenses (18 globes worth), I will run this lens as a regular old, run-of-the mill $85 globe. I would put 36 on the shelf and I guarantee I could get Andy to pick up the remaining 28 which would get us our hundred lenses sold. Then it would just fall in line and would always be available. I'll pay the art & screen charges, all you have to do is give me a P.O. for 36 lenses @ $35/lens. I'll even sweeten it further for Oldgas.com members, in that if an old gasser wants a set of these Derby lenses, I'll provide the plastic body free with the purchase. If there isn't a lot of interest, no big deal...just wanted to throw it out there.

I MAY NOT BE THE SHARPEST TOOL IN THE SHED, BUT IF I'M PAYING $35 A LENS AND THAT'S PRETTY MUCH WHAT THEY RETAIL FOR, HOW AM I GONNA MAKE ANY MONEY ON THEM? I'M NOT A DEALER OF SORTS AND I SEE NO POINT IN SPENDING THAT KIND OF CASH TO TRY AND SELL THEM AT LITTLE OR NO PROFIT. SETH, THANKS FOR THE OFFER, BUT I THINK I'LL HOLD OUT FOR AN ORIGINAL SINCE THEY SEEM CHEAP ENOUGH WHEN ONE DOES COME AROUND. I ONLY WANT ONE GLOBE. NOT 18! LOL!

I'M SURPRISED THAT IF IT'S COST EFFECTIVE TO RUN 100 LENSES THAT YOU COULDN'T TAKE THEM BETWEEN YOURSELF AND ANOTHER DEALER TO SPLIT THE COST & INVENTORY. IF YOU SELL THEM FOR @$85.00 THRU CATALOG, INTERNET AND SHOW SALES I'M SURE THEY WOULD MOVE OUT EVENTUALLY.
NOT AT A RAGING SPEED MIND YOU, BUT AT LEAST IT'S AVAILABLE.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT A LENS LIKE THE SHAMROCK CLOVER DESIGN COULD COMMAND MORE POPULARITY THAN DERBY'S OLD LOGO OR NEW LOGO. SOME THINGS JUST DON'T MAKE SENSE I GUESS.

Doc...you missed my point or I didn't articulate it well enough. What I meant was, if you could get commitments from other collectors along with yourself to buy 18 globes then I would have them made. I didn't mean YOU had to purchase all 18 yourself. That's why I said if it was an oldgasser that wanted one, than I would sweeten the deal to include a plastic body at no extra cost.

You mentioned the Shamrock globe. The reason I made it in the first place was that Shamrock Oil Co. wanted several visible pumps for corporate gifts, so I ran 100 lenses. I didn't just wake up one day and decide to make a plain jane 13.5" Shamrock globe. That particular globe doesn't sell but maybe 5-6 a year, but since I was amortizing the cost of the set-up costs over a large purchase, it was feasible.

Anyway, if there are enough of you guys that are interested, let Doc know.

I understood what you were trying to say, Seth. I see Mike Smith has offerd to buy one and I think I can get my Wife to allow me to get one also. With Doc, Mike and I that is 3 in a short time. Doc, If you are still interested, let's keep this post alive. You never know but I think there will be a good demand for it. And don't forget, Seth has stepped up again and sweetened the deal with a free plastic body! To an Oldgasser of course.
Mike
