Just purchased a 1930's 48" Phillips 66 sign that looks like it was once a neon sign. It has some clips on the 66 on both sides and some clips around the steel frame on one side only. The frame around the sign has the loops for the hanger on the top. I'm wondering how this sign was setup with the neon. Hopefully someone out there can help. Thanks Brad

If it was plumbed for neon it should have a few holes for the wiring to come through, the should be around an 1 1/4 inch hole. Probably at least 2 on the Phillips and 2 on the numbers. Also metal clips riveted on wuth a part sticking out looks like it would hold a flashlight bulb, these are used wuth a glass standoff to hold the neon tubing away from the sign. The transformer would be inside the can for protection...hope that helps
Look at a seller of neon signs like amistadi..usually have some close-ups of how it fastens to sthe sign..........dodogas

Thanks for the quick response. I have seen the sign your talking about. There are no holes in this sign, and the standoff clips were fastened with a screw and nut, three on each 6 none on the phillips. Brad

check out www.vintagegas.com I have one there that sounds the same as yours. Look under "Images" and then "signs".

Brad,
Mine's just like Don's. If you need a specific picture of any area of the sign, let me know and I'll send it to you. Email me at gasnglas@aol.com
BTW, is yours embossed or flat?

I once had a Phillips sign that had been neoned. It was a 30" shield. The neon was on one side, and had a wire going to the transformer. I bought it off a old collecor that took it off the original station. Maybe your's was originally like mine.
