Can someone please help identify the model number of this M&S Square Visible gas pump? I have searched all references available and can't find where M&S produced a square visible gas pump. I hope the images are enough to go on. It looks similar to a Saint Louis. Thanks in advance,

Can you add some good pictures of the Gallon Indicators and the actual pump?

Sir, thanks for responding; attached are the gallon markers; there are only two versus the usual three.

Man, does this pump bring up a bunch of questions.

First, I did not include any M&S visibles in my Gas book because I didn't have any info on any. Since the book was printed I have identified possibly three: the 600, a round hand operated 10 gallon; the 605, same pump but electricly operated (I have a picture of the 605); a round unknown, have a picture a collector sent me.

Question: Why is St. Louis on the door above? I have researched all the pump companies that were here in St. Louis, never knew the M&S used this address.

Question: All the St. Louis Pump Co.'s pump were square, could this possibly be one they made, then M&S acquired the rights? The St. L. 409 was acquired by National and National made some of them, after St. L. closed.

Not really a question, but the stick shown above does not match any St. Louis stick that I have seen.

It appears that I need to make another trip down to the St. Louis Main Library and do a little more research, or maybe as my 9 year old grandson says, "Why don't you just look it up on the web?"

Toby, welcome to my home away from home. Jack, I have the 409 and this pump also and that brings up a good point. I will compare them tommorow.

Thanks, Phil

The top on this pump looks like a Rush Pump to me. All of my Rush Pumps have a top just like this. I can't tell in the picture if it has glass in the top or not but Rush had some with and some without, it just depends on the model. The gallon markers look just like an American Pump that I have. You may want to send some better pictures of the top for me to be sure.

All, thanks for taking the time to respond. I have taken parts of the cast iron top in for repair and unfortunately can't take pictures of it; wasn't smart enough to take all inclusive pictures before taking pieces in to be fixed or replicated. I had heard somewhere that M&S bought pumps from the Saint Louis Company but can't verify. Mr. Sims, can you please post the picture of the square M&S Square you mentioned above? I have googled this pump in every way possible and cannot find anything. Phil, will come to visit soon to get pictures of your base. Again, sincerely appreciate all of you taking the time to respond.

LSac, forgot to mention that the top had the usual wire/glass that goes between the bulb and the glass cylinder. Hope this helps.

The Rush model K and J have the wire glass. They also have a notched out area where the conduite goes up to the light in the top.

LSac, thanks. The top cast iron piece that is being repaired has a threaded hole for the electrical conduit on the side. Wish I was smart enough to have taken complete pictures before getting all this fixed.

The post above stated that the two M&S pump I have pics of are both round pumps.

I have found this same visible pump twice, only mine had the Martin & Scwartz top instead of the Rush conversion piece like that one. Both of them I believe were model #100 (I'll check next week when I'm over there). Bill Bahorik in PA owns them now, and they are restored very nicely. I was hoping that when I found the second one, it would be marked Salisbury, Maryland on that access door but they both say St. Louis like yours. Of course we know they (M&S) had two different plants which manufactured pumps. Those gallon markers are correct and identical to what were in mine. Good luck, you can do it!

Goober, thanks so much!! I understand it's a M&S 100, with a Rush conversion top. Is there anyway you could get photos of the two you mentioned above? Thanks again,

Sure, I'll get some pictures and text them to you. Just call me and leave me your cell#, super busy at work right now. I found a killer 5 gallon Fry today in an old brick building in Cleveland. Its got the external pump mechanism, and all the bells and whistles, even has a nice brass padlock. Good luck with your restoration, let me know what you're looking for, we don't live that far from each other. 330-428-1125
