...not from the 1930's or 1940's, as the seller claims...the circle R makes it later than that...and it doesn't look crude like the Argentine (Argentinian?) signs...

...just to play devil's advocate: it wouldn't be the first time a seller measured wrong, either...

Now I'm going to have to go home and check. I could be totally wrong. The white line looks too thick compared to what I remember in my head. The one I have in my office has a much thinner white line on the edge. Sorry for any confusion.

...I looked at the auction pics of the other signs on the walls, and I see several well-known repro pieces well mixed-in with the original pieces frown

wink I will just add this info, on the 6 foot signs, and all other that have SIGNAL with GASOLINE across the bottom, the top and small light on the pole at the bottom is red. The sign that has SIGNAL with only GAS has all three lights black. I don't know if this holds true on any of the other size signs, or an oversite made by an Argentinian Counterfitter!

Hello Ed, I have seen the 6FT signs with Gas on the bottom in both the red and with all black. As for the triple black version pump plates they say gasoline.

If the sellers reserve wasn't so high I would be telling everybody to say away it's a fake! LOL grin

Okay, I think I was wrong. Sorry guys. However, this led me to really look closely at all my signal pump plates and notice a few patterns I haven't seen before. The double black lights pump plates all have the "R" at the bottom and the white border is thick in comparison to the red/black light pump plates which do not have the "R" and have a very thin white border. The Signal Ethyl and Diesel pump plates also do not have the "R" on the bottom and the white border is slightly thinner than the double black light, but not as thin as the red/black light pump plate. Now I am only making this observation from my small collection of pump plates and pictures I have.

I saw the thick white border on this ebay plate in question, no gromets, I didn't remember the R being there, and there was a heavy bright orange fresh rust spot on the back, and I jumped to the wrong conclusion. I'm pretty sure this plate is the real deal and I made a mistake. At least we got a little dialog about signal plates because of it.

Thanks Randy. I didn't even notice that R on the ethyl between the G and N in SIGNAL. I'll have to check my other one next week and see if I have one of each.
