I have several 30 year old license plates
and have a backyard shed that is being modified to look like a filling station and since there's nobody that interested in trading. I was thinking about placing them on one side of the shed. My questions is would you recommend placing a coat of clearcoat on them before placing on the shed wall ? The plates will be exposed to the outside elements.

I have seen similar questions, I would think if you are going to expose paint or porcelain to the sun, they would need to be coated with an automotive UV coating , whatever that may be. Clear coat will only stop water...untill the sun bakes it off.
just an observation......

License plates from the 70s are quite plentiful. If they get too weathered, replace them. You could buy replacements cheaper than the cost of the clear.

Go to this site for license plate information.
http://www.alpca.org/

It is the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association

I am planning on puting all 95 years of California's plates on my garage walls.
