Hello all,

I am new to this site, and was hoping for some constructive feedback. I know most of you are located primarily in the US, I myself am from Canada and have started to restore old pumps and lubsters. I have a website that I started about a month ago and it is still a work in progress. I was hoping for some feedback on the site itself. I have a few restorations uploaded that I have completed. ....., ................. Any feedback would be much appreciated. You can also sign my guest book on the site as well.
Thanks
Kevin

I dissagree with your Gas Pump History. Bowser did not invent a gas pump in 1885, he was trying to invent a water pump. When this didn't work he applied his idea to small counter pumps used in general stores. He did not make his first gas pump until 1886 and this is not what we refer to as a gas pump, this again is a pump that was used in a general store.
These gas counter pumps were used for gasoline that was used in gas powered lamps.
The first gas pump used for fueling automobile made by Bowser was not made until the late 1890, after the auto was invented.

I suggest you read the Gas Pump History in my Gas Pump Identification book, I still feel this is the best history ever written as it was based on literature from the pump companies.

Jack,

I am simply saying he developed a gas pump. Here is the exert from my website that you are referring to and disagreeing with "The first gasoline pump was invented and sold by Sylvanus F. Bowser in Fort Wayne Indiana on September 5, 1885. The pump however was not used for automobiles, as they had not been invented yet. It was instead used for the distribution of kerosene and gas used for lamps and stoves". Whether it was created for in store use as a gas pump to fill lamps, it is still a gas pump. I did not say it was the first automobile gas pump, so before you disagree with people and try to belittle them while trying to promote your book, Please read the content first.

Thanks for the kind words and welcome. It is not my intention to disrespect Mr. Sim, as I do have his book and think it is a great resource and well written and formatted. I am just a younger guy trying to impart some info in hopes a younger generation will get enthused about restoring these great works of art. It benefits all the older boys as well, if my generation no longer has an interest in restoring the past then the old boys loose as well as no one will be interested in their pumps or restorations. That would really be a shame for future generations KevinZ

I believe Interest in keeping the past alive, is stronger than ever..Especially with all the Picker/Restorer/Antique/Pawn type TV shows these days, viewed by Millions of people.

What the problem is ..The Younger generation as a whole, do not have the funds to invest in the Original stuff and therefore go for Reproduction.
The Older generation have the Original stuff, but cant sell it for the Big Bucks, because the Ole Boys wont buy it for the Big Bucks... and the Younger generation don't have any Bucks..

Sooo..The interest is there, but the Big Dollar market isn.t..( there are a few exception of course)..

In my opinion..it is better treated Purely as a Hobby for now, and not as a Money Making venture..
