So it looks like spring may finally arrive and I have a number of painting projects ahead. One is a glass Standard Oil flame and also a repo glass crown.

I have seen various advice on painting crowns, how to mask and the "paint with a light bulb on inside it". All great suggestions.

My first question is - any advice on what type of paint to use? What "pops" best when illuminated from the backside? I am not sure if lacquer vs enamel vs urethane matters. Any suggestions?

Anyone with experience blasting glass with walnut shells to remove the last of the current paint?

Any paint code suggestions of a good red?

Thanks!

Lee

I did a repaint on an old "Visible Gasoline" glass globe from the 20's. I took the advice from Scott Benjamin's Globe CD - Chapter 9. I used regular spray paint. I did it a couple different times as I didn't like the results the first time I did it -- accidentally scraped some of the paint off the globe that I didn't mean to. I used paint stripper (the thick kind that you brush on and let stand for a few minutes)to remove the paint. It worked well on both the original paint - what little that remained - and on the new paint I put on it. The stripper didn't effect the glass globe either. Good luck! You'll need a bucket load of patience to do it right. Greg
