that's too funny , whoo u callin da hill billy clinton I aint from mossouri &@&&@ LOL , but i have 10 gallon may west top just like this and to me you can see the stamping impressions from the under side where it was punched and it raised the bosses on top where the rods all pass through , this is interesting to me because a friend of mine sold me my may west and said the top was cast but it always looked stamped to me but it would be neat to find out the correct answer, I will post my top pictures he in a minute , all joking aside I would like to know myself.

Grainy like a green sand casting, but it would be hard to do that large and that thin. Would love to know. Molders back then took pride in their work.

Mine looks like that on the outside, but up at the top on the inside it looks smoother. Anyway it is on ebay now.
Thanks

I would not suggest that...but cast iron is brittle and subject to cracks and breakage. Dave

LMFAO!

I suggested to Craig that he take it to roof of building & drop to concrete. IF it breaks it's Cast Iron, IF it was dented it's Stamped Steel!
But the trouble w/ that is Craig would be calling 9-1-1 to be removed from roof!
laugh

And the beat goes on. This looks like an early one you are right. I am not dropping it from the top of the building though. Now I just want to fill it in and sand it.

Dave --Its a very early 10 gallon with an external pump and a lot of the parts are cast iron. Base is cast as well as the complete top and globe holder. Its still in "as found" condition too!
