...it's 'rule of thumb' and appropriately imprecise...I think one of the petro books (Dan Matthews' book?) has photos of Powerlube signs in various states to illustrate those numbers...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

As Mark says... Item ratings are subjective and never seem to be uniform. (IMO)...

I've been in the Hobby for a fairly long time. And it has been my experience that one common occurrence is a constant. That constant is: if there are 10 people looking at a sign. There will be atleast 4-6 different condition ratings on said sign when "notes are compared"...

Yes, very subjective!
If you own it......higher rating. If owned by someone else....lower rating.

Just like Earthquakes ie; a 5.0 is 10X stronger than a 4.9 [so IF it's a 9+, kiss your *** Good Bye]!

Signs are graded on a scale of 1 to 10. One being the worst and 10 being the best. A sign has got to be really nice to grade a 9+. I look at color, gloss, scratches, chips, bends, etc. Bob's right, everyone grades different. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Dr. Dave is right! Dick's also right. If it's a 9++, kiss your money goodbye. Price goes up, when condition goes up!

So do the colors, and the saying, for example, a chevrolet sign that says (chevrolet service) or (Chevrolet dealer) have a factor in pricing? I always look at a sign first and if the colors catch my eye, I think they sell better in my opinion. what do you think?
