Is the paint code for Texaco red 70008 this is the code I gave a painter the other day so he could paint a pump for me , the boy's down at auto color said they don't think it's the right code , they said they will mix it for me but I want to make sure that it's right. Is there anybody out there that knows for sure, he's picking up the paint tomorrow so this is kind of last minute. the pump is a Bennett 756 and will be a TEXACO FIRE CHIEF please help Thanks Chris

Check previous postings for finding paint codes. It might be faster than waiting for a Texaco collector to answer your question.

The Texas Company 1939 Color Chart and Painting Standardization Manual (which would, for all intents and purposes, have been valid through the early '80's) lists only two shades of red. #15 Dark Red was used on "[wooden] barrels, concrete floors, brick settings, ship's decks, etc.". This would obviously have been a "brick" red. #14 Red was used for "Trade-mark star, fire equipment, [FIRE-CHIEF and INDIAN] gasoline pumps, and lubricators.". This was the classic "TEXACO-red" and should be quite easy to distinguish from the dark red.

Unfortunately, the manual does not list manufacturers' codes. For what it's worth, though, Valspar still makes a "Colonial Red" which is a dead-ringer for TEXACO-red.

Hope this helps.

PPG Ditzler code 70008 should be the right one according to the Gas Pump Collector's Guide. I would think that Dupont would have a cross match.
