I am not a Texaco expert by any means but I believe I have seen a similar sign before. This one is an unfinished one of course but the black outer ring looks familiar.

Original, unfinished sign in my opinion. What's interesting is that the black is missing from the center of the sign. Why wasn't it fired at the same time as the black outer ring?
