I originally collected bottles and soda advertising but have moved into Gas and oil advertising also. I dug a nice porcelain Aromax sign out of a crawl space before I got a back injury from a Car accident. Ive been doing alot with cans and little oilers all strictly pre 1970. I do alot in antiques, and know this means its vintage, but what does this kind of an address mean in age, I know it would be before 1962 since there isnt a zip code. Examples are:

New york 17, NY
Atlanta 2, GA
San Diego 1, CA
New york 20, NY

And so on. I would say 40s-50s but no one seems to know. Thanks in advance smile

They are Postal Zones. They started in 1943 according to a search on them.

One and two digit zones were in use by the Post office from 1943 to 1963 and then '63 on for 5 digit Zip Codes. That doesn't mean that every company changed their labeling promptly on those changeover dates, or displayed a zone or zip at all on any label on any year.
