I have a Gilbarco 80 for restoration. The top has metal plates where the ad glass would be on a Model 86. Is it meant to have ad glass or should the metal panels be painted or imaged in any way?

They came with and with out ad glass. The non ad glass version had the metal plates. If you want ad glass just remove the metal plates and replace with ad glass.

Thank you for your quick replies. I thought I saw a Gilbarco 80 once where the metal "plates" had writing on them like "ESSO" and wondered whether that is what should be done with them.

I suppose that you could paint them. All of them that I have seen have been blank painted metal.

I converted one to ad glass. The Gilbert & Barker is a nice looking pump, but, it has a lot of blank panels on it. You'll have to have the glass cut as it isn't a standard size.
