Way back when Havoline use to have a few signs created this way with sand? Does anyone know what that process was called.

Thanks Doug

Haven't ya ever watched the City/State crews paint the street for Cross Walks/Stop Signs/Lanes?
While the paint is still wet they throw the Reflective stuff on.

Google search; How are street lines Reflective

Gulfiend that might be it ? Some of Havoline's "large signs" were made with this rough texture. It almost felt like sand paper when you touched it.

Dick not making signs yet. Another member and myself were discussing this method of painting tin signs.

Thanks

Just a matter of time before they add this stuff to old painted signs!

Maybe I should add this stuff to my old Dodge so that Drunks can see it at Night!
BAD Idea, I'd be a Target then.

That's a good one Dick, reflective paint to the entire body, oranges in the back, and a six pack of warm beer on the seat next to you.

Now that we are all having fun which other, I guess it is time this thread will be removed to some other place on OG.

There was a guy at Michigan Gas who was selling a bunch of reproduction signs and cast iron stuff with a few original pieces mixed in. He had a flat die-cut clam shell, about 2 foot across. It had "Shell" and maybe "Motor Oil" written on it with red reflective paint. He was selling it as original. I want to say "Lacie51" was selling one on ebay a while ago too.

Having that 6-pack on the front seat would be unbearable for him as he wouldn't be able to indulge unless the car was on blocks! lol

Back to what Doug said--I was wondering why you said sand as I am guessing (not having seen one of these signs) that you did not notice the reflective quality that would have made you think glass instead? Was it painted over or did you just not notice at the time you saw the sign?

Does anyone have a picture of one of these?

I believe this is what Blacktee is talking about (2 Chevrolet versions and a Star Car); don't know what the process is called, but cool signs with a great patina.
