It sure looks sloppy to me but I have been wrong before, what do you guys think? The size is 16 x 10.

I am always looking for anything Texaco or Oklahoma oil and gas company's, also I am a newbie at seeking globes.

Not old/original.... Vacuum Oil would never have approved such poor craftmanship.

This sign has been discussed on here MANY times!
Do your homework FIRST before you ask.
Simply learn how to use the search feature...It works great!
That will save you alot of headaches, and everyone else too for that matter...LOL

I did do my homework but could find nothing on a similar sign on the search plus it was offered from a individual to me. Maybe before I get another scolding I will spend a day trying to find out from other sources.

Looks like a great target for my AR-15!
But then someone would try and sell it for more due to the "patina"...

I'm not trying to take over the thread but I don't want to start a brand new thread for this and since the answer is known about the sign that was originally asked about I thought it might be ok to ask this on here.
This is a sign I just got and I think it is original but I don't want to pass on a repop to anyone. If I bought one, I will mark it and keep it with the others that I have on my Shoppe repop wall.
This is after I have gently cleaned it and coated with a high quality wax. It is painted and 5"X20".
I have done research and did not see any like it at the recent Mathews sale and Proxibid lists one that sold in 2010 and there was another sale of one in 2008ish but the information will not pull up and I did a search on the google bar here and no luck. There are dark blue porcelain examples that come up in bunches and I don't know if there was a real one like that or if they are all fantasy or repops.
Thanx in advance for any thoughts shared!!

Obvious fake. That is why you never seen one at a legit auction co.

I have asked JP to Consider adding a Forum just for IS THIS REPRODUCTION/FANTASY or REAL.

Now, there's words of wisdom.

"Obvious fake. That is why you never seen one at a legit auction co."

Unfortunately, the obvious is not obvious to those trying to find the next rare sign for resale.

I don't try "to find the next rare sign for resale", I look for what I like and get it if I can afford it.
Have You ever been burned on ANY type of repop? So, if you answered yes, your just like me, it just happened to you longer ago and you have had years of experience since.
It's also not "obvious" to me because unlike the above sign, that this thread was started about, this sign has very clean crisp lines and detail.
This was not a researched buy of mine, it was over the internet and it was not a sign I planned to buy at that auction so I never checked it out like I usually do. I just liked it and picked it up from a distance of 1000+ miles away.
Add me to the list of those that paid top dollar ($200 + 10% + Shipping for a total of around $240) for a repop!
I know better than to do what I did, I got caught up in the sale excitement and did not get all of the other things that I bid on so I pulled a stoopid!
Other items I've had questions about, I took the time to ask some of the great folks on here and their gracious replies saved me from making this mistake.
I think that forum would be a good one DB!
I will be posting this in the Known Fakes so that someone else does not get burned.
